We kicked off the holiday season with our favorite Thanksgiving tradition – the second annual Emily Whitehead Foundation Turkey Trot! On November 23, we welcomed over 123 trotters from five states and 21 zip codes to Philipsburg, PA, for a morning of festive fun to activate the cure for childhood cancer.
It was a beautiful day for a race, and both serious runners and enthusiastic walkers enjoyed the scenic views at Cold Stream Dam & Recreation Park. Everyone couldn’t help feeling the holiday spirit once they saw the park’s iconic giant Santa Claus, which is the tallest Santa display in the state. Thank you to the dedicated Philipsburg Borough staff who ensured the race trail was nicely maintained, including a last-minute tree removal.
As participants trotted over the river and through the woods, they kept an eye out for small turkeys hidden throughout the course. Those that returned a turkey received a “turkey treat” – a special prize gifted by our local sponsors. After crossing the finish line, trotters celebrated their success by enjoying a delicious slice of pie donated by the American Diner.
Thanks to our participants, sponsors and volunteers, we raised over $3,300 to support local families with children affected by cancer. Congratulations to all our trotters and a special shout out to our top male finisher, Dallas Kephart, and top female finisher, Manna Potter.
Our hearts are filled with gratitude, and we hope to continue to grow the event each year! We are sincerely grateful to our generous sponsors for making this event possible.
