A little rain did not stop us from having a wonderful weekend at the 2024 Pittsburgh Marathon!
The Emily Whitehead Foundation has proudly partnered with the DICK’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon since 2016, and every year, we look forward to returning to the City of Bridges to Run for a Reason.
Our incredible team of runners included first-time marathon runners, returning runners, a runner celebrating her 40th birthday, and a marathon relay team that included Emily Whitehead’s aunt and other runners with Philipsburg roots. The Foundation’s tent at the Finish Line Festival in Point State Park offered a spot for runners to meet with family and friends, take pictures and celebrate crossing the finish line.
One runner commented, “Running 13.1 miles may seem like a challenge but seeing people battle cancer, oftentimes doing so with a smile on their face, makes running seem easy.”
Thanks to our amazing team of runners and a generous $1,000 match donation, we raised over $10,000 to Activate The Cure! We are so grateful for their dedication and support and congratulate them on this remarkable accomplishment. Thank you also to those who volunteered on behalf of the Foundation at the finish line and expo. We hope to see everyone back at next year’s race!
Before we return to Pittsburgh, the Foundation will be lacing up for the Philadelphia Marathon in November. To join our 2024 Philadelphia Marathon team, contact Jodie Potter at jodiepotter@emilywhiteheadfoundation.org.
