Team EWF continues to inspire us!
For the fourth consecutive year, the Emily Whitehead Foundation had the honor of being an official charity partner to the Pittsburgh Marathon. Our team of 25 runners participated in a variety of the marathon weekend events, including the 5k, relay, half marathon and full marathon.
For the first time this year, our very own hero and co-founder Emily Whitehead joined Team EWF on the marathon course and completed her very first 5k alongside her parents on Saturday morning!
It was just seven years ago that Emily was breathing only with assistance from a ventilator while fighting through the storm of her immune system being activated to kill her cancer — a memory that Tom says he recounted to himself as he and Kari followed Emily through the finish line.
We were also very excited to learn that our relay team placed 26th overall out of 1,047 teams in the marathon relay on Sunday!
We are so thankful to each of our Team EWF runners for the dedication and inspiration they bring not only to each other, but to the families that we support as well. We appreciate every one of you for running to Activate The Cure with us!
Thank you also to the embassadors who volunteered their time to help out and represent EWF at the Pittsburgh Marathon Expo on Saturday - and to Urban Impact for generously sharing a charity tent (and quesadillas!) with us as we welcomed our runners back from their marathon events.
Next up... Philadelphia Marathon 2019!
