On Friday, April 21, our team had the honor of visiting the community of Hummelstown, PA for "Activate The Cure Day" — a day of fundraising organized to benefit the Emily Whitehead Foundation.

The event was hosted at Cubby’s Ice Cream Café, located on Main Street near the heart of town. A HUGE thank you goes out to owner Michelle Bertini and her awesome staff for allowing us to take over their venue on such a beautiful and busy spring night, in addition to donating a percentage of sales.

Hummelstown Activate The Cure Day was organized by one of our founding Emily Whitehead Foundation board members, Tom Garrett. As a leukemia survivor himself, Tom has always been dedicated to supporting our mission however he can and hosts a variety of fundraisers throughout the year in the surrounding Harrisburg/Hershey area.

In addition to our host location, we are grateful for the generous support local businesses Hummelstown Fuel Oil Service, Wallett’s Flooring, Garrett’s Painting and Landscaping, and the Palmyra Greenhouse. We are also grateful to have had Hummelstown Mayor David Roeting stop by to show his support and issue a proclamation naming April 21, 2023 "Emily Whitehead Foundation Day" in the Borough of Hummelstown.

As a special treat, Cubby’s Ice Cream Café and Beck’s Ice Cream, based in York, Pennsylvania, worked together to develop an “Activate The Cure” ice cream flavor: raspberry ice cream with orange swirls, chosen to represent the Emily Whitehead Foundation’s purple and orange brand colors.

A few additional special treats of the evening included a magic performance from Country Conjuring magician Erick Hershey, face painting from local artist Brooke Guddat, and the appearance of special guests Miss Pennsylvania (Alysa Bainbridge), Miss Hummelstown (Sage McKeever), and Pennsylvania State Representative Tom Mehaffie.

Thanks to everyone who showed up, bought ice cream, or donated in some way, Hummelstown Activate The Cure Day raised more than $1,500!

Events like this go a long way toward helping families fighting childhood cancer, both locally in towns like Hummelstown and all around the world.

Thank you for helping us Activate The Cure!
