On Saturday, July 21 we had the pleasure of attending the 27th Annual Glenn O. Hawbaker Charity Golf Tournament at Penn State Blue and White Courses in State College, Pa. The Emily Whitehead Foundation was invited to participate as one of eight beneficiaries of this year's tournament.
We had a great day and were joined by a handful of our own volunteers at the event, who generously gave their time to assist the GOH golf committee with skill games, scoring incentives and donation collections out on the course. As a participating charity, the Emily Whitehead Foundation is eligible to receive a portion of the total funds raised by the tournament.
The GOH golf outing got its charitable start as a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House after an employee whose son was being treated at Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey recognized a need for supporting the housing facility. In the near three decades since, the tournament has grown to accommodate new beneficiaries, more golfers, and as of 2017 has raised over $1,000,000 for the charities that have participated.
In a first for the GOH event, Tom Whitehead was invited to speak and share the Foundation's story with those participants and sponsors gathered for dinner at the conclusion of the tournament.
Thank you to the Hawbaker family and Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. employees and golf committee members for hosting such a great event and choosing to benefit the Emily Whitehead Foundation this year!
